Constipation is a symptom, not just a simple disease. There are many reasons that can cause constipation, which can be summarized into the following four aspects:
(1) Dietary constipation: Due to a long-term lack of dietary fiber in the diet, such as fresh vegetables, fruits, and coarse grains, or insufficient food intake, overly refined food, and food residue stimulating the intestinal mucosa insufficiently, the cerebral cortex lacks sufficient stimulation, failing to produce the urge to defecate, thus causing constipation.
(2) Weakness-type constipation: Due to elderly weakness, malnutrition, obesity, digestive diseases, etc., the muscles assisting in defecation become weak (e.g., relaxation and weakness of the diaphragm, abdominal wall, and pelvic muscles), reducing propulsion, leading to constipation.
(3) Mechanical constipation: Due to tumors blocking all or part of the intestine, obstructing movement, or the presence of intestinal obstruction, the movement of intestinal contents is hindered, causing constipation.
(4) Neurological constipation: Due to dysfunction of the nervous system, hyperactivity of the parasympathetic nervous system of the intestinal wall, causing spasm of the intestinal wall, muscle tension, excessive contraction, and narrowing of the intestinal lumen, making it difficult for feces to pass, resulting in constipation. Excessive dietary fiber can also cause intestinal wall spasms and lead to constipation.
This book introduces dietary therapy recipes for constipation. It is both knowledge-based and practical, with a strong focus, easy to understand, and straightforward. The entire book is systematic, coherent, and rich in content. We hope this book becomes your friend.
