Features: This book compiles knowledge related to respiratory physiology, monitoring, the impact of surgery on respiratory function, and postoperative respiratory function support and treatment. It includes pulmonary function testing and evaluation, airway management, anesthesia, cardiac and thoracic surgery, cranial surgery, upper abdominal surgery, elderly patients, infants and children, trauma, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, respiratory physical therapy, respiratory pharmacology, mechanical ventilation and related issues, non-invasive ventilation, unconventional assisted ventilation, the application of fiberoptic bronchoscopy, and hemofiltration techniques. It is a specialized work on advanced perioperative respiratory monitoring and treatment technologies. The language is concise and clear, suitable for clinical workers in various levels of hospitals.
The perioperative period refers to the time centered around surgical treatment, encompassing preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases. Surgery is an important means of treating diseases in the surgical system. It can cure diseases, but it can also lead to complications, sequelae, and other adverse outcomes. To achieve satisfactory surgical success, both satisfactory anesthesia management and excellent surgical techniques are required, along with comprehensive perioperative management to ensure the success of the surgery. Otherwise, it is possible to have a successful surgery but a failed treatment outcome. The perioperative management varies depending on the type of surgery and the specific patient undergoing the same type of surgery. Therefore, strictly speaking, each type of surgery and each patient has its own specific perioperative management content.
With the advancement of surgical and anesthesia techniques, surgeries on critically ill patients, elderly patients, and even very elderly patients have been widely conducted. However, postoperative respiratory complications severely affect patients' recovery, prolong hospital stays, and may even lead to death. Currently, in clinical and teaching settings, many middle-aged and young physicians and teachers deeply feel the lack of a comprehensive and systematic specialized work on perioperative respiratory function.
We have compiled knowledge related to respiratory physiology, monitoring, the impact of different types of surgery on respiratory function, and postoperative respiratory function support and respiratory treatment into this book, aiming to provide it for clinical middle-aged and young teachers, graduate students, physicians in various clinical departments, and senior medical students for reading and reference, hoping to benefit the readers. This book references recent domestic and international literature, with up-to-date content closely linked to clinical practice to promote the application of knowledge.
The contributors to the book are all master's and doctoral supervisors from disciplines such as surgery, internal medicine, anesthesia, emergency medicine, and geriatrics at Shanghai Second Medical University, each with high expertise in their respective fields. The appendix of this book provides normal values and key terms related to respiratory function for easy reference by readers.
