Patient's question:
On October 8th, I had an abortion without anesthesia, and it has been 61 days since my last menstrual period. At 40 days, I had an ultrasound and the doctor found no abnormalities in my uterus. Yesterday, I noticed a little blood, but it wasn't significant. Last night, after having sex with my husband, I also saw a bit of blood. Today, I have bloating and pain in my abdomen. What kind of assistance do I need? How should I seek treatment? When can I expect my menstrual period to return?Doctor's answer:
Painless abortion for 61 days without menstruation may be due to the lack of progesterone because of ovulation recovery failure, which cannot stimulate the endometrium to shed. It could also be caused by residual tissue. Additionally, it might be due to thin endometrium or uterine adhesions. If there was sexual activity after the procedure without proper contraception, it could also be a result of pregnancy.Generally, after a painless abortion, at least two follow-up check-ups are recommended. The first one should be a B scan around half a month post-procedure to check for any residual tissue. The second follow-up should be conducted after completing a normal menstrual cycle to assess the recovery of the uterine appendages. If there is no menstruation for 35 days post-surgery, it is advisable to visit the hospital for a follow-up as soon as possible.
