This series is compiled by the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads and is a research outcome of the Beijing Step-by-Step Quality Education Research Institute. Since its publication by the Olympic Press, it has stood out uniquely and is deeply loved by teachers, parents, and students. After significant revisions, re-editions, or complete rewrites, it has been renamed as "Golden Medal Olympiads" and "Golden Medal Schools" series, and is now re-published and distributed by Jinghua Publishing House. On this occasion of the re-publication, we sincerely thank millions of readers across the country.
The Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads (abbreviated as "Subject Olympiads") are the most extensive, widely participated in, and influential subject competition activities for primary and secondary school students in China. Subject Olympiads are derived from and extended from the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the International Physics Olympiad (IPHO), the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO), and other internationally influential middle school subject competitions that attract millions of young students every year. The reason for such widespread attention lies in the strong innovation, flexibility, and comprehensiveness of Olympiads, as well as their focus on cultivating students' exploration skills and inspiring their innovative awareness. These are precisely the core elements of quality education, which are also essential for future development.
Based on years of in-depth research on this activity and a large number of outstanding books in this category, the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited outstanding educators dedicated to this field from all over the country to compile and publish a series of books on mathematics, Chinese, English, physics, chemistry, biology, and information technology—comprising over 200 varieties. In terms of the variety, quantity, and quality of our Olympiad books, they are the most influential in the domestic and international industry and hold the greatest charm in the hearts of primary and secondary school teachers and students.
The compilation principles and characteristics of the "Golden Medal Olympiads" and "Golden Medal Schools" series are as follows:
1. High: Derived from textbooks but higher than textbooks. Derived from textbooks means it is written in accordance with the latest [curriculum standards] of the Ministry of Education; higher than textbooks means it is closely aligned with the competition syllabi of various levels, ensuring comprehensive alignment in content, question types, and ability requirements. It aims to cultivate interest, develop intelligence, and enhance abilities.
2. Accurate: Scientifically accurate and well-structured. Each book is designed according to the characteristics of the subject, scientifically organized, and follows a step-by-step approach, providing in-depth yet accessible analysis and comprehensive, detailed problem-solving methods.
3. Innovative: The questions selected are novel, unique, and highly engaging. They gather the essence of recent Olympiad, middle school, and high school exam questions, representing the highest level of current Olympiads and reflecting new concepts in curriculum reform, as well as new ideas, methods, and trends in competition question-setting.
4. Refined: Selected examples are challenging yet not obscure, flexible, and achievable. The focus is on generalizing from one example to many, promoting cross-disciplinary understanding; it emphasizes multi-solution, multi-variable, and multi-question approaches to problems, with an emphasis on training thinking skills rather than rote memorization, making learning an interest and hobby.
5. Renowned: A gathering of famous teachers and a collection of famous competitions. The Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited distinguished professors from prestigious universities, special-grade teachers, senior teachers, subject leaders, and renowned Olympic medal coaches to co-author these books.
