What are the reasons for watery vaginal discharge after insertion of an intrauterine device?

Patient's question:

I am 47 years old. Due to endometrial hyperplasia, I had the Mirena IUD inserted on January 12th of this year. Since March, I have been experiencing watery discharge from the vagina at irregular times. I have had HPV and LCT tests, which were normal. A pelvic MRI confirmed adenomyosis, Nabothian cysts in the cervical canal, and ovarian cysts. A colposcopy confirmed chronic inflammation of the cervical canal mucosa and chronic cervicitis. I don't know what is causing this watery vaginal discharge. I am very upset and worried it might be cervical adenocarcinoma.

Doctor's answer:

Watery white discharge, this is due to the presence of an IUD leading to continuous increase in secretions. If there is no odor and no yellow discharge, and after a thorough check-up showing no organic inflammation, then it is likely caused by the IUD.
2. Another possibility is fallopian tube tumors, which can also cause watery white discharge. The three main symptoms are abdominal pain, pelvic masses, and vaginal discharge. It is best to have a transvaginal ultrasound to rule out fallopian tube tumors.
3. For cervical adenocarcinoma, a cervical CT and HPV test can be performed, or a colposcopic biopsy can be done to confirm the diagnosis.
