Features: This paper is a continuation of a research report titled "The Impact of the Information Technology Industry on Economic Growth, Employment, and Income Distribution" that we conducted last year. Therefore, it is largely based on that report, but it differs significantly from last year's report and has been greatly expanded. Mainly:
1. This paper focuses entirely on the empirical measurement of the impact of the information technology industry on economic growth. In our measurement of the output of the information technology industry, we have included the "pull" of the broadcasting and television industry, making the scope of the information technology industry more consistent with internationally accepted standards. Unlike last year's research, this paper not only aligns the scope of the information technology industry's output with international standards but also expands on last year's measurement of nominal output by measuring the real output of the information technology industry. This measurement allows us to more accurately grasp the actual impact of information technology on economic growth.
2. This paper estimates the impact of the information technology industry on the inflation rate. This estimation provides some help in understanding the causes of deflation that began in 1997.
