Patient's question:
During pregnancy, it's always particularly uncomfortable, and morning sickness is also very severe. What medications are available for postpartum wind?Doctor's answer:
Mothers are prone to spasms, commonly referred to as postpartum convulsions, which are not actually caused by wind but rather by the depletion of liver blood, unable to nourish the tendons, leading to hand and foot twitching, resembling a stroke. There may also be jaw clenching, opisthotonos, indicating severe deficiency of qi and blood. In such cases, emergency feeding with Xiao Xù Mìng Decoction is recommended. When extreme deficiency gives rise to wind, symptoms include bluish lips, cold breath, spontaneous sweating, closed eyes, and confusion. Treating this as a wind condition would be a grave mistake. Treatment should focus on nourishing yin and calming wind, using the Da Ding Feng Zhu formula. Ancient practitioners also used Jì Wēi Shàng Dān to treat this condition.
