What are the treatments for vulvar itching and abnormal vaginal discharge?

Patient's question:

I've had this for over ten months, and I always feel itchy down there. The itching never stops, and it's extremely painful. Plus, my discharge smells bad and is thick like mucus. I thought it was nothing and just took some medicine and cleaned myself, but it didn't go away at all. They always say I have a terrible odor. It makes me feel very embarrassed.

Doctor's answer:

It should be vaginitis. Trichomoniasis is caused by the blood pathogen -- Trichomonas vaginalis, which is spread through sexual intercourse or indirectly (such as through public baths, swimming pools, clothing, sterile gauze, and industrial-contaminated instruments). The main symptoms include external genital itching, increased vaginal discharge, which is pale yellow and foamy, and in severe cases, the discharge may contain blood. There may also be a burning sensation, pain during intercourse. If accompanied by urethral infection, it may cause frequent urination, painful urination, or even hematuria. Treatment -- Treatment typically involves oral metronidazole and the vaginal insertion of metronidazole suppositories, with a course of 7-10 days, repeated for 3 months, and 1% lactic acid solution for external genital washing.
