Features: The "Compendium of Natural Resources of China: Water Resources Volume" was organized by the Ministry of Water Resources, as required by the State Planning Commission and Document No. 433 of the National Land Resources Office, to establish the "Water Resources Volume Editorial Committee." To the greatest extent possible, the writing team aimed to fulfill the editorial committee's objective of "reflecting the status of China's natural resources, studying the prospects for resource development, and formulating strategies for resource utilization, conservation, and protection, serving as a basis and reference for decision-making by leaders at all levels, the formulation of plans and programs, and the guidance of development and construction." The contributors to the water resources volume based their work on the national second water resources assessment, while striving to comprehensively incorporate the latest achievements from research and planning efforts related to water resources over the past eight or nine years. This included planning results for major river basins, breakthroughs in water resources utilization research for the North China region during the "Sixth Five-Year Plan" and "Seventh Five-Year Plan" periods, long-term water supply and demand planning outcomes, water resource management and source planning results, achievements related to water resources in China's "Agenda 21," as well as the "Eighth Five-Year Plan" and decade-long planning outcomes of the Ministry of Water Resources.
