Features: Modern Western legal concepts and legal systems have two main origins: one is England, and the other is France. The former is the homeland of the common law system, while the latter is the foundation of the civil law system. Since China has primarily borrowed from the achievements of the civil law system in its modernization of the legal system since the late Qing Dynasty, there is more coverage of civil law-related content, while research on the common law system is relatively weak. This book is one of the earliest translated works introducing the common law system in China, holding academic significance of an epoch-making nature. The book consists of fundamental theories of case law (including the development process of case law, Anglo-American legal sources, and the nature of British adoption of Roman law) and specific legal systems. These specific legal systems are primarily focused on civil law, including the acquisition of movable property, the formation of contracts, and damages.
