Features: The problem of underachieving students is a major issue in basic education. Underachieving students in mathematics constitute the largest group among underachievers, a frequent challenge in mathematics teaching, and a highly challenging topic in mathematics education research. Based on practical research among a wide range of students, this book systematically and meticulously investigates the phenomenon of underachieving students through organized and planned large-scale basic tests, and formulates targeted solutions. Representing the study of underachieving students in mathematics, it explores the general patterns of underachievement, focusing on junior high school students in basic education as a case study to examine the regularities of underachieving students in mathematics (primarily the causes of underachievement, patterns of change, diagnosis, and transformation). This is the overall research framework and the chosen starting point of this study. The writing of this book can be seen as a summary of ten years of research on underachieving students in mathematics. Many of the materials in the book come from the first two stages of the research, especially the experimental research phase. Additionally, during the writing process, the book references and cites the works of many domestic and international experts, and it is precisely these resources that have enriched the book.
