Features: Before the reform and opening-up, the focus of China's foreign research was basically on two poles: the Soviet-American bloc and the Afro-Asian-Latin American Third World. Research on the former was primarily aimed at confrontation, while exploring the latter sought to establish a united front against world hegemonism. The clear political objectives also made the research itself lean heavily on politics, military affairs, and international relations, while the exploration of culture, economy, and trade was relegated to a secondary position. Australia belonged to the Second World, and its relationship with China at the time was not close, so it was naturally outside the focus of research. The research outcomes were mostly compilations,, and were scattered and lacked systematicity. The research forces were scattered and weak, making it difficult to achieve significant results. Ordinary people paid even less attention to Australia. Although geographically, Australia is closer to China than Europe and America, to most Chinese, Australia was a distant and somewhat mysterious country.
