This textbook is designed to provide practical reading materials for third-year college students majoring in finance and economics, helping them review and consolidate the language knowledge they learned in the basic English stage, lay a foundation for professional English courses in finance and economics, and accumulate professional terminology and vocabulary. Additionally, this book can also serve as a self-study textbook for finance and economics professionals to improve their professional English skills.
The authors introduce Western economic theories, an overview of the World Bank, an introduction to international insurance, and new accounting systems from the perspective of macroeconomics. The selected materials cover fundamental knowledge and practices in finance, banking, accounting, business management, insurance, auditing, taxation, investment, and information management. All the texts and supplementary reading materials are excerpted from original publications from the 1980s or 1990s, with most texts being suitable for the level of College English Tests Band 5 and Band 6. The book consists of 10 units. Each unit includes a main text of approximately 1,000 words and a supplementary reading material with similar content but lower difficulty. Exercises are provided after each text, including reading comprehension questions, discussions on economic hot topics, vocabulary exercises, fill-in-the-blank exercises, and translation exercises. The final part of each unit provides additional professional terminology and vocabulary related to the main text. This book will be accompanied by a teacher's manual, including reference answers for the texts and solutions to the exercises.
