Features: Under the influence of the stern elder at home since childhood, I have a deep passion for poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal carving. At the age of nineteen, I was specially recruited into the army for my calligraphy and painting skills, and began a career of professional artistic creation that lasted for seventeen years. Over the decades, I have nevered my pursuit of this hobby. Especially after turning forty, I became a disciple of Mr. Liu Gongbing, receiving his dedicated guidance and benefiting greatly from it. Since my youth, I have been learning to write classical poetry. To this day, I have composed over two thousand poems, but very few of them satisfy me personally. For years, I have only treasured them as if they were precious treasures, storing them away and preserving them. In the past two decades, under the guidance of my mentor, Mr. Bingshen, my calligraphy has improved, and I often record some of my old works to give to friends. Encouraged by fellow enthusiasts, I began to take the time to organize my old poetry manuscripts, selecting roughly one in ten and choosing two or three hundred pieces. Then, I further selected over one hundred pieces from before the year 2000 and copied them in small regular script, which is the content of this volume. As for my poems, I know my own limitations and cannot hope to match the many accomplished poets and versifiers. As for my calligraphy, I also know it is not strong, and all of it was written over five years ago. Looking at it now, I find it unsatisfactory. Yet, I dare to publish it out of shame, for one, to express my gratitude and hope for my father and my mentor, Mr. Liu Gongbing, who nurtured me and had expectations for me, and to provide an account to comfort their spirits in the afterlife; and second, to present my『roots』to the world in hopes of receiving guidance from the knowledgeable. That is all. During the process of organizing the poetry manuscripts, Mr. Jiang Ying, a senior poet from Tianjin, reviewed and corrected them despite his illness, and even composed a poem in celebration. Additionally, Mr. Tang Yunlai, a renowned calligrapher of Tianjin, inscribed the title for this small booklet. I extend my sincere gratitude to both of them!
