Features: The first movement of "Piano Concerto No. 17 in A Major, K. 219" is not only melodically beautiful and pleasing but also structurally extraordinary. The orchestral theme at the beginning of the piece, though it sounds very complete, is actually just an accompaniment to the solo instrument in the second exposition. However, the solo instrument appears in an abrupt Adagio—its gentle and poetic charm must have moved every listener. Mozart often introduces a new theme in the solo instrument's exposition in the earlier concertos, and he does so here as well. The final movement, the Rondo, is filled with various contrasts, which would have seemed both fascinating and comical to the audience of Mozart's time.
