Features: Blue-and-green landscape painting is relative to ink and shallow red painting, with stone blue, stone green, and other heavy colors as the main hues. Based on this understanding, we have defined and selected the works in this album. Generally, blue-and-green landscape painting is divided into two styles: meticulous blue-green and freehand blue-green. The former is characterized by refined brushwork. Starting from the Six Dynasties period, it gradually developed until the two Li brothers in the Tang Dynasty established the basic creative characteristics of blue-and-green landscape painting. Around the turn of the Song Dynasty, three categories emerged: gold-and-green landscape, large blue-green landscape, and small blue-green landscape. These developed independently and influenced each other during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, with small blue-green landscape being the most prominent. Gold-and-green landscape emphasizes gold and green brilliance, large blue-green landscape excels in dazzling brightness, and small blue-green landscape is marvelous in warmth, elegance, and refinement. The latter emerged in the late Ming Dynasty, represented by Lan Ying's boneless heavy-color landscape painting. Later, based on this foundation, it developed into the modern and contemporary boneless heavy-color landscape painting created by masters like Zhang Daqian and Liu Haisu. Boneless heavy-color painting excels in vibrant and colorful beauty, while blue-green splashing painting is known for its passionate and expressive charm.
