Features: The "New Curriculum Standards for Primary School Chinese" state: When reading narrative works, students should understand the gist of the events; when reading science and technology application texts, they should grasp the key points; when reading selected poems and prose, they should generally grasp the meaning, imagine the scenarios described in the poems, and appreciate the emotions of the poets. In short, primary school students' reading should aim for a preliminary understanding. Based on specific objectives, the written exam mainly assesses this preliminary understanding in three aspects: ① Understanding the meaning of words and sentences; ② Understanding the main content, from initially grasping the main content to being able to identify key points; ③ Inferring the logical sequence of expression. Initially grasping the main content is based on a holistic understanding of the text, which is an important skill requiring students to have basic summarization abilities—such as summarizing the meaning of a paragraph or the entire article, accurately capturing the central sentence of the text, and connecting the text to understand the meaning of the questions. However, achieving a holistic understanding is not enough; students must also infer the logical sequence, expression methods, and effects of the text. They should focus on key sentences in the text, carefully their meaning, usage, and expressive effects, especially central sentences, topic sentences, transitional sentences, sentences that echo each other, sentences using rhetorical devices, and seemingly contradictory yet reasonable sentences, etc. The implementation of the "New Curriculum Standards for Primary School Chinese" has brought many changes to the design of reading test questions in primary school graduation exams. The author collected several dozen junior high school entrance and research test papers from more than 20 provinces (cities) in China. These papers show the following characteristics in their question-setting, and the author has proposed corresponding preparation strategies.
