Features: In the past decade or so, the discipline of the history of Chinese education has made remarkable breakthroughs in both general history and specialized studies, as well as in biographical critiques. Building on this foundation, some scholars have further attempted to theoretically summarize the development and evolution of Chinese educational thought from a philosophical perspective.① However, to date, there has not been a systematic work titled The History of Chinese Educational Philosophy (Volume 2). Moved by this, some members of the Chinese Education History discipline at East China Normal University, in collaboration with peer experts from other institutions, have resolved to conduct pioneering research on this cutting-edge topic. With the approval of the State Education Commission, this project has been approved as a special research fund project for doctoral programs in the humanities.
Regarding the style of The History of Chinese Educational Philosophy (Volume 2), as the research progresses and understanding deepens, it has been unanimously agreed that the work should reflect Chinese characteristics and a distinctly Chinese perspective, avoiding the mechanical application of Western educational philosophy concepts and categories. This is because Chinese culture and educational development possess their own unique traits. British philosopher Bertrand Russell once said: "Chinese civilization is the only one of the world's great ancient civilizations that has survived and continued to this day."
