Watercolor landscape sketch creation

Author: Ping Long (Editor)
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-08-01
Features: This book is primarily composed of three parts:
1. Basic Theories and Techniques;
2. Reviews of Major Works;
3. Creation and Essays.
Part one mainly introduces the laws and commonalities of watercolor painting creation; Part two focuses on the author's insights and discoveries during field sketches, seeking sensibility within reason and individuality within commonality; Part three revolves around creation, emphasizing the interpretation of personal creative concepts, aesthetic preferences, and artistic language.
Although the book begins with watercolor techniques, it is not limited to them. Alongside numerous sketches and creative works, it includes accumulated reflections on painting and artistic thoughts over the years. Here, mature and immature insights are compiled together, serving as a modest contribution—please allow fellow experts to critique and correct any shortcomings.
During the writing process, the author frequently reflected on the following three aspects:
1. From an educational perspective, it is essential to balance the relationship between foundational teaching and creative philosophy. Foundational teaching emphasizes the explanation of artistic principles, while creation focuses more on transcending the deeper meaning of "artistic principles."
2. From the perspective of creative concepts, contemporary art is an era of seeking differentiation while preserving unity. Seeking differences and transcending the past are characteristics of modern art. The author believes that the form of art as a carrier is not the goal.
3. From the accumulation of works, the author's creative approach is self-proclaimed as "accumulative." It is to let inspiration flow freely, and when inspiration wanes, so does the act. The themes and expressions of the works exhibit a phased nature, and the "satisfying" creations of a phase are only a few, easily recalled. The numerous illustrations in the book can only be achieved through years of accumulation.
