Features: "New Language" is not entirely a whimsical, groundless creation, but rather a new artistic language in contrast to the existing traditional art language. In the information age of rapidly advancing technology, the integration and influence of computer technology on human life have brought about revolutionary changes in aesthetic awareness. To adapt to this change and meet social needs, this new artistic language—Digital Art—has emerged. Although Digital Art is a brand-new discipline, it is the most influential art in people's lives today. With computers, the artisticization of life and the life of art have both become possible. The book "New Language" is essentially a summary of the teaching experience in the development of the Digital Art program at the School of Fine Arts, Shanghai University. In 1993, "Computer Art" was included in Shanghai's key discipline construction program, and at that time, an SGI workstation was imported through Hong Kong. In 1994, a multimedia CD-ROM titled "Ancient Chinese Art" was completed. In 1997 and 1998, the online magazine "Art World" was successfully launched on Shanghai Online. In 1999, the program began admitting graduate students in multimedia art. In 2002, undergraduate students in Digital Art were enrolled. Step by step, we have gradually advanced and achieved success. In the process of practice, our understanding of Digital Art has evolved from Computer-Aided Design to Multimedia Art to Interactive Digital Art. The illustrations and articles in this book bear witness to this process of understanding. The publication of "New Language" is also thanks to Mr. Tian Zhong. By chance, I discussed the current, past, and future state of art and design education with Mr. Tian Zhong, who came to Shanghai. When he learned that we were trying to develop new disciplines, he immediately decided to include this topic in the series. Due to my busy schedule, I kept delaying, but he persistently urged me time and again. Finally, we were able to complete this book. Fortunately, his persistent "pushing" allowed me to review and summarize my recent teaching practices, clarifying my thoughts. Although new problems and ideas kept emerging during the proofreading process, and some issues seemed worth further elaboration, considering that this is still a stage of experience in the process, and the development of Digital Art, as well as people's understanding of its potential, are constantly evolving, the book was completed hastily. Therefore, this book serves as a "throwing of a brick to attract jade," hoping to contribute a small effort to the development of Digital Art, and I look forward to the timely criticism and corrections from fellow experts.
