Features: Since 2000, the European Commission has annually funded a group of outstanding young Chinese lawyers to travel to Europe for training programs lasting nine months or longer, studying our legal system and the practical operation of law. The courses are specifically designed for program participants by the China-EU Legal and Judicial Cooperation Program. Although the research of young Chinese lawyers is completed at a series of carefully selected European universities, the program remains practical rather than purely academic. Program participants visited legal institutions, including the European Court and local prisons, interned at law firms in Europe, and exchanged ideas with young legal professionals there. As one of the outcomes of these visits, this book is the third collection of essays written by program participants. The authors hope to share the insights gained from their European journey with other Chinese legal professionals and to discuss their understanding of the connections between European experience and the development of Chinese law through personal experience. The authors also hope that this collection of essays will enhance mutual understanding between Europe and China regarding their respective legal systems and legal norms. A shared understanding of law will help advance bilateral relations between Europe and China, fostering deeper development in areas such as trade, political dialogue, and shared interests in ensuring compliance with international conventions and treaties. The essays included in this book cover a wide range of legal concerns, including commercial trade and human rights. Through deep reflection on their European journey, the authors focus on the practical application of law, grounded in their understanding of the benefits that a rule-of-law-based society can bring. I commend the authors of the essays and wish the publication of this collection great success.
