Features: The inquiry into the misfortune of Sun Zhigang has led to a situation that is both seemingly expected and unexpected. We may have encountered some alliances of "enforcers" who are deceitful and cruel once again. The questioned may ask: Why must we continue to pursue this? The results have already been released, haven't they? The direct answer is: Because some old doubts remain unresolved and new ones have emerged; because we fear that new graves may be added to the old ones of the wrongfully executed, and the new victims may not all be free from injustice. And the inquirers may still ask: Why is it so difficult to reveal the full truth? With such emphasis on the facts over just a few dozen hours, shouldn't it be as clear as daylight? No answer is heard. People can only speculate: Because the truth of the matter may be perceived by the enforcers as damaging to their power and interests. And the quiet answer in the hearts of some parties might still be: Isn't this just one person's death? What more can be done? Perhaps they might think: With the SARS epidemic looming, why are we still making a fuss over the death of just one person? I am willing to measure people with the best intentions, and I don't believe anyone was deliberately set on killing Sun Zhigang. What truly worries me is an extreme carelessness and indifference toward life that continues to exist, especially among enforcers, who hold the power to easily place people in a position of death. This extreme carelessness and indifference toward life, linked to power, can sometimes be more frightening than deliberate murder, because it occurs on a larger scale and is more easily protected, even forgiven or excused. People sometimes become accustomed to the "cruelty" of daily life and view the deaths resulting from it as "accidents." Therefore, I believe it is necessary to revisit the principles of life.
