Features: The Federative Republic of Brazil (Brazil), code BR. With a land area of 8,547,000 square kilometers, it is the largest country in Latin America. Located in the southeastern part of South America. It borders French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, Venezuela, and Colombia to the north, Peru and Bolivia to the west, Paraguay, Argentina, and Uruguay to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The coastline is over 7,400 kilometers long, with a territorial sea width of 12 nautical miles and an exclusive economic zone extending 188 nautical miles offshore. 80% of the country is located in the tropical region, with the southern tip having a subtropical climate. The Amazon Plain in the north has an equatorial climate, with an average annual temperature of 27-29°C. The central highlands have a tropical savanna climate, divided into dry and rainy seasons. The southern region has an average temperature of 16-19°C. The country is divided into 26 states and 1 federal district (Federal District of Brasília). Below the states are municipalities, with a total of 5,507 municipalities nationwide. Among them, 79 have populations over 150,000, and 12 have populations over 1 million (as of 1999). The names of the states are as follows: Acre, Alagoas, Amazonas, Amapá, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranh?o, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Rond?nia, Roraima, Santa Catarina, S?o Paulo, Sergipe, and Tocantins.
