Features: Cameroon: Natural Overview: Located in the central-western part of the African continent, with the southwest bordering the Gulf of Guinea; it borders Nigeria to the west, Chad to the northeast, and Central Africa, Congo (Brazzaville), and the east; it shares a southern border with Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. The country covers an area of 475,422 square kilometers, with a coastline of 354 kilometers. Most of the territory is highland. The central-western part of Cameroon features volcanic mountains with numerous conical volcanic formations, generally at an altitude of 2,000 meters. Mount Cameroon, at 4,070 meters, is the highest peak in the country. The southwest coastal and northern regions have plains. There are many rivers and lakes. The rivers all originate from the central highlands and flow in all directions, forming a nearly radial water system rich in hydropower resources. The Sanaga River is the largest river. The western coastal and southeastern regions have a tropical rainforest climate, while the northern part has a tropical grassland climate. The average annual temperature is 24-28°C, and the average annual precipitation exceeds 2,000 millimeters, with Mount Cameroon's foothills reaching over 9,000 millimeters annually, making it one of the areas with the highest rainfall in the world. The country is rich in natural resources, including bauxite, iron, uranium, gold, diamonds, copper, and petroleum, but their development is limited. Forests cover about 40% of the country, and hydropower resources account for approximately 3% of the world's total.
Population and Ethnicity: The population is 13.9 million. There are over 200 ethnic groups, with the main ones being the Bamileke, Fulani, Fang, Beti, Pygmy, Duala, and others. There are about 200 ethnic languages, but none are written. Each ethnic group speaks its own language, while the official languages are French and English. The population practices animism (45%), Catholicism and Protestantism (35%), Islam (20%), and other religions.
Economy and Culture: The national economy is primarily based on agriculture, earning it the reputation of the "breadbasket of Central Africa." Agricultural workers account for about 71% of the population. The country grows various crops, including tubers, sorghum, rice, bananas, cocoa, coffee, and cotton. In normal years, Cameroon ranks among the world's top cocoa producers. The northern region has a well-developed livestock industry, with the Adamaoua Plateau being Africa's largest cattle-raising area. The industrial level is among the highest in Black Africa, with sectors including electricity, aluminum smelting, oil refining, woodworking, textiles, and agricultural product processing. Tourism is on the rise, with the country known as the "Mini Africa." Transportation is primarily road-based, with a total road length of about 49,000 kilometers, accounting for 85% of the total transportation volume. Railways extend for over 1,115 kilometers and are narrow-gauge. There is limited water transport and air transport. The main exports include cocoa, coffee, timber, crude oil, and aluminum products, while the main imports are industrial equipment and consumer goods. The main trading partners are France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, and the United States. Education is widespread, with a child enrollment rate of 76%. There are six universities, including the University of Yaoundé , and three technical colleges. Major newspapers include Cameroon Forum and Unity. The Cameroon News Agency is the national press agency; radio and television stations are state-owned.
Travel Guide: Douala: The largest port and city in the country, serving as the economic capital. Most industries are concentrated here. Located on the Atlantic coast, it is a major shipping route and maritime center in West Africa, with ports capable of docking supertankers and a dedicated banana transport terminal. The historic African district in the city retains its traditional charm. Buea: A southwestern tourist city located at the eastern foothills of Mount Cameroon, at an altitude of about 1,000 meters. The city is surrounded by lush trees and blooming flowers, with streams flowing everywhere. From here, visitors can enjoy views of Mount Cameroon. Foumban: A historic city located in the northwest of the capital. Major attractions include the city moat, the Sultan's Palace and Tomb of Bamum, the Foumban Historical Museum, mosques, and churches. The Bamum script is the only writing system created by Black Africans, making it of great significance for studying Black African society and culture. Kumba: A small southwestern city that serves as a trading hub for cocoa, bananas, palm nuts, and rubber. The city has a volcanic crater lake at a higher elevation, with beautiful scenery. Victoria: Cameroon's oil extraction center and a famous tourist destination, located on the Gulf of Guinea with picturesque views. From here, visitors can see Mount Cameroon and enjoy surfing in the beautiful bay. The tropical botanical garden houses over 1,500 plant species and a large number of birds. Mount Cameroon: The most famous tourist destination. The volcano stands at 4,070 meters with four craters, showcasing majestic scenery. It has erupted five times in this century, with the largest eruption in 1959 lasting over a month. The latest eruption was in 1982. Waza National Park: A wildlife reserve located in the northern part of the country, divided into forest and grassland areas. The best time to observe animals is from June to November. The park is home to elephants, giraffes, lions, antelopes, buffaloes, and is also a paradise for birds.
