There are a total of 7,107 islands, of which 11 major islands—Luzon, Mindanao, Samar, and others—account for 96% of the country's total area. The coastline is approximately 18,533 kilometers long. It has a monsoon-type tropical rainforest climate with high temperatures, heavy rainfall, high humidity, and frequent typhoons. Tourism: One of the important sources of the Philippines' foreign exchange earnings. In 2003, the country welcomed 2.2 million tourists, a year-on-year increase of 14%, generating $1.64 billion in tourism revenue and creating 3.8 million jobs. Major tourist destinations include: Puerto Princesa, Blue Bay, Baguio City, Mount Mayon, Ifugao Rice Terraces, etc.
