Features: Combining learning and practice is an effective way for lifelong learning. Integrating systematic theoretical study and knowledge updates with the job responsibilities one is engaged in is an effective learning method. The Culture Ministry's Social and Cultural Library Department will organize on-the-job training and continuing education programs across national libraries. This is a work of significant and long-term impact. The "Library On-the-Job Training Textbooks," written by a group of librarians and scholars with rich theoretical and practical experience, provide the necessary conditions for this initiative. It is hoped that cultural authorities at all levels will organize this work well. In the future, on-the-job training and continuing education for library professionals will be gradually improved and institutionalized. I believe that with the implementation of this program, librarians will actively engage in learning and practice, continuously improving their qualities, and making greater contributions to advancing the development of library services in the new century and building a prosperous and thriving modern China.
The guiding principles of this textbook attempt to reflect:
1. Experimentality: Utilizing practical operations to avoid empty theorizing.
2. Novelty: Reflecting the latest developments in cataloging.
3. Applicability: Addressing both manual and computer-assisted cataloging needs while being suitable for libraries and other information institutions.
In terms of content, the textbook strives to gather strengths, fill gaps, and incorporate innovative ideas. Based on an overview of domestic and international cataloging theory and practice, it systematically discusses the organization and management of cataloging, the recording methods for various types of literature, computer-assisted cataloging, and its standardization and control. The textbook is characterized by its practicality, novelty, and applicability.
