Fragment: A special feature titled "Yanjing Ancient Records" includes research on the deeds of Shanghai scholar Lu Shen, which has recently been frequently reported in newspapers. It first appeared in the special feature section of the Shanghai Times and attracted significant attention from the public, praised for its thorough and insightful narrative. The Shanghai Municipal Archives has always shown a strong interest in researching local historical sites. Under the circumstances where Lu Shen's deeds have caused a sensation across Shanghai, they naturally could not afford to miss this opportunity. They believed that to obtain more detailed and accurate records about Lu Shen, an on-site investigation at the former Lu family residence in Pudong and his burial site was necessary. Coincidentally, the Shanghai Times was also very interested in this ancient exploration. After several preliminary discussions between both parties, an agreement was reached to visit Yangjing together. Upon receiving the news, our company also arranged to send a reporter to join the trip to gather information.
This Yangjing trip was well-planned. The Shanghai Municipal Archives' compilers had prepared several locations for their visit, including the Lu family residence area, Zhangjialou Town's Jiaxiang Temple, and Yangjing Town, all of which they aimed to capture in their photographs. Everyone agreed to meet at 8:30 AM or earlier at Dongmen Road Pier, with the warning: "No waiting after the deadline." The team from the Shanghai Municipal Archives included Compiler Director Xu Weinan, Compiler Cai Shixun, Wu Jingshan, Hu Daojing, Guo Xiaoxian, and Jiang Shenwu. Two days before departure, they had prepared all necessary equipment such as maps, cameras, paper and ink, compasses, etc., and had also made small guide cards to distribute among the group. Mr. Zhang Ruogu and Mr. Zhang Yude accompanied them, bringing a large supply of photographic film. Mr. Hu from the Shanghai Municipal Archives had even arranged for a guide. Prior to the trip, through an introduction by his friend Chen Zhiliang, he had arranged for Zhuang Xuechu, the head of the Yangjing District's security department, to serve as their guide. His assistance later proved invaluable and was something we would never forget.
At the very moment of departure, we were extremely delighted to see Mr. Xu's daughter Tianming join the group for this ancient exploration. Additionally, Mr. Hu's younger brother Daoqian, dressed in a Boy Scout uniform, also participated. This further boosted our morale.
