A Compilation of Materials on "The Golden Lotus"

Author: Zhu Yixuan (Editor)
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2002-06-01
Features: This book is the fourth volume of the series "Classical Chinese Novel Masterpieces," compiled by the author for the needs of teaching and research, gathering years of accumulated materials on "The Gold Bowl." The compilation is divided into five parts.
Part One: The Story Compilation, which collects materials borrowed from classical novels for "The Gold Bowl."
Part Two: The Author Compilation, which gathers materials related to the study of the author of "The Gold Bowl."
Part Three: The Version Compilation, which collects version materials of "The Gold Bowl."
Part Four: The Criticism Compilation, which gathers reviews of "The Gold Bowl" after its publication.
Part Five: The Influence Compilation, which is further divided into two sections: the influence on novels and the influence on opera.
Due to the fact that operas based on the stories of figures like Wu Song, Ximen Qing, and Pan Jinlian are generally categorized as "Water Margin operas," this compilation includes only those listed in Zhu Yifu's "A Comprehensive Examination of Classical Opera Titles" (Gu Dian Xi Qu Cun Mu Hui Kao), excluding others. Most of the materials compiled in this book predate the May Fourth Movement. Some materials, however, have been included due to special needs and extend beyond this timeframe. The materials in each part of the compilation are arranged chronologically by the authors, with a few exceptions due to similar content. Each entry is annotated with the era, author, volume number of the source book, and the version used. If an entry is a secondary reference, the original source is also noted. For materials from the same version, the version is only annotated under the first occurrence.
