Features: This textbook is designed for foreign students with intermediate or above Chinese proficiency. It aims to further enhance students' reading and writing skills through in-depth analysis of model texts and a substantial amount of exercises, while cultivating their ability to analyze and appreciate the language of exemplary Chinese works. The texts are primarily selected from the works of renowned modern and contemporary writers, emphasizing linguistic excellence, a wide range of themes, and diverse genres. The arrangement is carefully structured to progress from simple to complex in a systematic manner. The last two lessons in the lower volume are excerpts from The Story of the Stone (Dream of the Red Chamber) and The Scholars, intended to introduce students to classical vernacular fiction and spark their interest in reading classic Chinese literature. For pedagogical purposes, some modifications have been made to the language of certain texts. The exercises include mastering the usage of key vocabulary and sentence patterns, retelling the content of the texts orally or in writing, as well as summarizing and rewriting the texts. The exercises are designed to be closely aligned with the illustrative examples.
