Features: The 21st century is the century of cities. "Urban China" has become the most inspiring slogan of the new century. Cities are creations centered around people, the birthplace of civilization. The personality of a city is a product of history and cultural condensation, once formed, it is forever unchangeable. The passage of time may weather its appearance, but it never diminishes its charm. The transformation of a city's character is a microcosm of the changes in the times. Every city, with its varying scope of influence and reach, often changes with the times and circumstances. However, no matter how it changes, its status as a regional political, economic, and cultural center remains unshaken. Cities are like people, with their own outward appearance and inner character. Cities with unique cultural traits and spiritual qualities are undoubtedly the most attractive and unforgettable. A city can only possess true charm by continuously shaping and beautifying itself in the context of its historical and cultural traditions, stimulating vitality. The key to urban development lies in charm, personality, and culture. Without personality, a city loses its culture and the foundation of its development. Without charm, personality, and culture, a city lacks vitality and competitiveness. Among China's hundreds of major and medium-sized cities, there are countless cities with charm. So, which cities in China possess the most distinctive personality and vitality? What are their characteristics? Where does their charm lie? This series of books aims to answer these questions. Focusing on economic vitality as its core, we attempt to interpret the character and charm of seven of China's most vibrant cities, showcasing their unique vitality. Charm encompasses many aspects: it can be a long history and rich culture, beautiful urban landscapes, unique folk customs, vibrant economies, positive spiritual outlooks, creative urban construction, and far-reaching regional influence. In this series, we attempt to observe China's cities with a (sensitive) eye and understand them from an economic perspective, seeking the personality and charm of each city. Economic vitality, consumer potential, and investment environment are the focal points of this series. As Kevin Lynch, an American expert, said, economic vitality, as the most important component of urban vitality, primarily manifests in the growth of the city's economy and its attractiveness to foreign capital and various factors of production. Its strong foundation itself is a guarantee of economic vitality. In addition to economic vitality, this series also provides sketches of the historical and cultural heritage, folk customs, and urban construction of the selected cities. In summary, it is primarily reflected in the following four aspects: 1. A vibrant urban economy: A vibrant city is the most beautiful and healthy. It also reflects a city's extraordinary development potential. 2. Elegant urban environmental characteristics: The urban environment is a city's most direct calling card. 3. Unique folk customs charm: Folk customs are elements with strong regional color and are an important aspect of showcasing a city's personality. 4. Time-honored historical and cultural charm: Culture is the backbone of a city. A long history and rich culture will give a city a unique character. This series stands at the forefront of urban development, examining each city from multiple angles—historical landscapes, cultural backgrounds, consumer markets, and economic behaviors—to reflect each city's economic structure and cultural mindset, uncovering each city's rhythm and direction of development, thereby focusing on China's urbanization process. It includes comprehensive analyses of urban macroeconomics, vivid descriptions of microeconomics, and categorized insights into consumer markets; it features sketches of architectural streets, lively analyses of historical customs, and profound perspectives on human character. Although the cities reviewed in this series are only a small fraction of China's hundreds of cities, and there are many other distinctive cities beyond this small selection, these seven cities are undoubtedly among China's most vibrant and characterful. They are truly worth savoring. We believe readers will find this series highly beneficial. Of course, these seven cities are just the first installment of our series. In the future, we will carefully introduce more cities with exceptional vitality and provide insightful reviews of their charm. Who will be featured in the next installments? Where will their vitality and brilliance lie? We look forward to readers' anticipation.
