Features: The 21st century will be the century of neuroscience. With the continuous development and application of science and technology, neurosurgery is also rapidly advancing. In today's increasingly frequent international exchanges, increasing communication with international colleagues and improving the level of neurosurgery in our country are both the demands of the times and the needs for development. It is with great pleasure that I learn of the upcoming Chinese edition of the authoritative international work "Schmiedek & Sweet's Operative Neurosurgery," and I am particularly honored to write this preface to introduce it. Now, neurosurgery has reached a brand new stage. On one hand, the scope of neurosurgical research is continuously expanding, with developments not only in traditional fields but also in interdisciplinary studies, leading to the emergence of new theories and technologies. On the other hand, many mature techniques are currently only applied in a few large hospitals and await broader promotion. It is in this context that Professor Wang Renzhi and others translated "Schmiedek & Sweet's Operative Neurosurgery." This book, co-authored by renowned neurosurgeons from 27 countries, comprehensively introduces the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases in the field of neurosurgery, reflecting the latest research findings and current development status of international neurosurgery. Particularly noteworthy is the detailed and insightful explanation of the indications and operative techniques for neurosurgery, which is richly illustrated, well-documented, and closely tied to clinical practice, fully showcasing the extensive clinical experience of each expert. As a neurosurgeon engaged in medical education and clinical research for over 50 years, I believe this is an advanced reference book worth recommending for neurosurgery. I am confident that it will serve as a guiding force in clinical treatment, teaching, and research for neurosurgeons and physicians in related disciplines across the country, becoming a trusted mentor and companion.
In closing, I extend my sincere gratitude to the authors and translators of this book, hoping it will play a greater role in the development of neurosurgery in our country. This book is an advanced reference for neurosurgery, primarily aimed at neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, otolaryngologists, head and neck surgeons, and graduate students in hospitals and research institutions. It also holds significant guiding value for clinical physicians in other related disciplines.
