Features: This book describes the vicissitudes of change in the field of architecture and urban design over nearly a century. In the past over a hundred years, the changes that have occurred in the field of architecture have been so rapid and complex as to be unprecedented. From the design theory of individual buildings to the planning of entire cities; the international style landscapes advocated by architectural masters; nationalist and totalitarian architecture; social engineering projects; urbanization; and the architecture influenced by Art Nouveau, Cubism, De Stijl, and Futurism, all these changes, experiments, and fusions are discussed in this rich volume.
