Features: Esophageal surgery has been practiced in China for over half a century. Through the arduous efforts of many years, the diagnostic and treatment levels have significantly improved. Taking esophageal cancer, the most common esophageal disease in China, as an example, the resection rate has increased, while the incidence of complications and surgical mortality have decreased over the past half-century. In the recent two decades, the achievements of high technology have been reflected in the field of esophageal surgery, leading to remarkable progress in the diagnosis and treatment of esophageal diseases, which was unforeseen two decades ago. In terms of diagnosis, there are now applications such as endoscopic ultrasound for esophageal disease examination, PET scans, and the continuous improvement of esophageal function testing techniques. In surgical treatment, esophageal surgery can utilize various precision instruments, minimally invasive surgery, and esophageal stent technology, which have become comparable to or even replaced traditional open surgery. Overall, esophageal surgery technology has made a leap forward in both diagnosis and treatment. The purpose of this book is to introduce the achievements of esophageal surgery development both domestically and internationally, while also reflecting the current status and level of esophageal surgery in China, serving as a reference for colleagues both at home and abroad.
