Features: The main purpose of this book is to introduce clinical diseases and syndromes related to myalgia, and to combine new concepts from neuroanatomy and electrophysiological research. In many examples, existing theoretical foundations and clinical thinking models will be challenged, although new concepts to replace old ones may not always be proposed. In the chapter on drug treatment, the treatment is divided into two parts: 1. An overview of the principles and drugs applicable to the pain diseases mentioned in this chapter; 2. A list of drugs used for treatment, including dosage, mechanism of action, and side effects. Another purpose of this book is to replace outdated and mechanical concepts with modern ones. The concept from old textbooks, that "all reflex pathways are composed of simple neuronal chains, and each receptor activation to a sufficient degree produces a specific reflex effect," is now considered that motor reflexes strongly depend on the activity of the descending motor pathways. When descending facilitation is lost—such as during the spinal shock phase—even if the muscle spindles transmit maximal activity, the monosynaptic stretch reflex cannot be activated. The flexibility of central nervous system reflex connections has been demonstrated by examples of voluntary movement.
