Features: This year, the city is facing a mayoral election, and Mayor Gu is determined to seek re-election. At this critical juncture, two sensational rumors spread throughout the city: one claiming that the "Renminbi currency would be replaced" to legally convert income into new currency, which was seen as a new measure for "anti-corruption and integrity," causing those with illegal income to live in fear; the other stating that a shooting tragedy had occurred at the city's central hospital, with rivers of blood flowing. These rumors quickly spread through the streets and alleys, causing a stir and turning the city into a whirlwind. Mayor Gu was also thrown into chaos.
At Mayor Gu's home, things were far from calm. His youngest son, Kujie, was dating the daughter of the hospital director, Jiang, but both families opposed the relationship. The reason was that over 20 years ago, Mayor Gu's wife had had a romance with Jiang, who later gave birth to Kujie. How could Mayor Gu's wife and Jiang watch this "half-sibling" relationship unfold?
Tragedy was about to strike. Unable to bear the situation, Jiang's wife revealed her daughter's double identity. The double blow drove Jiang's daughter to madness. The story unfolds with twists and turns, shrouded in mystery. Amid the entanglements of the mayor and the hospital director's families, the novel also portrays several couples closely tied to these families' fates. Through their emotional struggles and sexual dilemmas, the narrative delves deep, offering profound moral lessons.
The novel's plot is ingeniously crafted, with a fresh and original theme, and an unexpected ending. It reveals the complexities of life, criticizes the corruption in official circles, and exposes the ugly faces of some people. The novel is highly readable and appeals to both refined and popular tastes.
