Features: Many Japanese musical instruments were introduced as Gagaku instruments from China during the 7th and 8th centuries. Unlike China, these instruments have largely retained their original form to this day. However, Japan is an island nation at the eastern end of the Eurasian continent and was long isolated. Due to its highly developed and unique musical aesthetics, which differ greatly from those of other countries, each instrument developed distinctive playing techniques not found elsewhere. This could very well provide various inspirations for Chinese composers with similar ancestral instruments.
