Features: The second edition of this book was revised by the authors based on the 1978 edition, referring to the draft teaching syllabus for engineering mathematics in higher industrial schools and incorporating opinions and suggestions accumulated during use. The revised book is divided into seven chapters, maintaining the feature of arranging content around the methods for solving mathematical physics equations, as in the previous edition. The first four chapters and the seventh chapter introduce the basic concepts and common methods for solving mathematical physics equations. Chapters five and six discuss the solutions, main properties, and applications of two special types of ordinary differential equations—Bessel's equation and Legendre's equation—in solving boundary value problems of mathematical physics. This book was reviewed by Professor Zhou Maoqing of Jiangsu University of Technology. The Editorial Committee of Engineering Mathematics Textbooks for Higher Education Institutions has approved this book as a textbook for higher industrial schools.
