Features: The Byzantine Empire (also known as the Eastern Roman Empire) was a significant empire in medieval Europe, with a history spanning over a thousand years. It exerted a profound influence on medieval Europe and various countries in Western Asia. Particularly, its culture served as a bridge connecting the classical Greek and Roman eras to the modern European civilization of the Italian Renaissance, holding a considerable position in world history. As a result, the international academic community has placed great emphasis on the study of its history and culture, rapidly elevating it to the status of a "prestigious field of study." Due to the complexity of Byzantine Greek and the scarcity of historical materials in this field, the academic research in China has lagged behind that of Europe and the United States. Professor Chen has twice traveled to Greece for advanced studies and research, specializing in Byzantine history. Upon returning to China, he continued his research in Byzantine history, publishing dozens of related papers and works such as A Comprehensive History of the Byzantine Empire and Military History of the Byzantine Empire. Studies on Byzantine History consists of seven chapters, providing an in-depth introduction and elaboration on the author's recent achievements and new perspectives in the study of Byzantine politics, economy, religion, culture, and foreign relations. It is a significant work by the author. The entire book presents original viewpoints and is rich in information, undoubtedly contributing to the advancement of Byzantine studies.
