Features: From March to July 2002, under the authorization of the Beijing Municipal Government and the Organizing Committee of the 29th Olympic Games, the Beijing Municipal Planning Commission organized an open call for planning and design proposals for the Olympic Park and the Wukesong Cultural and Sports Center, both domestically and internationally. A total of more than 100 design units from 21 countries and regions participated, and finally, over 90 proposals were received. The submitted proposals demonstrated active creative ideas, diverse expressive techniques, rich cultural connotations, and high-quality document production, fully reflecting the enthusiasm of domestic and international planning and design units for Beijing hosting the 2008 Olympic Games. The proposals from this call for entries are now compiled and published to express gratitude to all participating units and to complete the record of this historic event. It is hoped that this will further promote the openness of China's planning and design market, facilitate exchanges between Chinese and foreign planning and design units, and advance research in urban design and Olympic-related planning and design.
