Features: The Huiyang Culture Encyclopedia is composed of 20 monographs and over a thousand color and black-and-white photographs (images), with a total of over 6 million words. It is the largest academic work in Anhui Province since the founding of the People's Republic of China and also an encyclopedia that systematically summarizes and showcases Huiyang culture and the lives of Huiyang residents. The titles of these volumes are: Huiyang Land System, Huiyang Merchants, Huiyang Clan Society, Xin'an Neo-Confucianism, Huiyang Education, Huiyang Architecture, Huiyang Villages, Huiyang Technology, Huiyang Folk Customs, Huiyang Seal Carving, Huiyang Dialects, Huiyang Woodblock Prints, Huiyang Neo-Confucian Scholarship, Xin'an Painting School, Huiyang Documents and Archives, Huiyang Book Publishing, Xin'an Medicine, Huiyang Opera, Huiyang Crafts, and Huiyang Cuisine.
From the perspective of historical and cultural studies, the Encyclopedia comprehensively and systematically explores various aspects of Huiyang culture, examining their relationships with Huiyang's natural geography, socio-economy, politics, and the lives of its residents. It evaluates Huiyang culture within the broader context of national and even global culture and, from the historical height of the turn of the century, systematically reviews and summarizes the research achievements of domestic and international academia on Huiyang culture since the early 20th century. On this basis, it conducts higher-level rational thinking and academic discussions. Overall, the Encyclopedia is the largest original academic work in our province since the founding of the People's Republic of China and the most comprehensive, systematic, and authoritative academic work on Huiyang culture to date. The publication of the Huiyang Culture Encyclopedia is a significant event in the development of local culture and humanities and social sciences research in our province.
A review of the 20 volumes of the Encyclopedia reveals four fundamental characteristics:
1. Contemporaneity: The Encyclopedia conducts a broad and multi-level study of Huiyang cultural phenomena, covering almost all aspects of Huiyang culture. It reflects the latest academic achievements and the characteristics of Huiyang studies in the new era, representing the academic standards of the time.
2. Authority: The authors who contributed to each volume are renowned experts currently active in the field of Huiyang studies in China, serving as academic leaders in their respective disciplines. They have produced substantial achievements and are highly regarded in academia, essentially representing the academic standards of Huiyang studies in China. It is fair to say that the academic authority of the Encyclopedia is undeniable.
3. Systematicity: The 20 monographs in the Encyclopedia form an organic whole while being independently published. They take into account both the overall and universal nature of Huiyang culture and its typicality and internal logic, making it the most systematic academic work on Huiyang culture to date.
4. Innovation: The Encyclopedia conducts in-depth research on the formation, evolution, and interactive relationships among various phenomena of Huiyang culture. Many of the materials and books presented in the book are published for the first time, and many of the theoretical methods are at the forefront of the discipline. Whether in terms of materials, perspectives, or methods, the book demonstrates high originality.
