English is an indispensable communication tool in the tourism industry. The English proficiency of its practitioners directly impacts the development of the tourism industry, while the booming tourism industry urgently needs a steady stream of qualified talent. Considering market demand and the current state of tourism English teaching in China, which is still imperfect and not well-standardized, the author compiled this textbook. This textbook aims not only to enhance the professional English practical skills of those already in the industry but also, more importantly, to lay a solid foundation for students still in school, broaden their knowledge, boost their confidence in successful employment, and improve their ability to work with ease. This book is a tourism English textbook consisting of fourteen lessons, each divided into six parts.
Part 1: Two dialogues, selected based on daily tourism life scenarios;
Part 2: One text, focusing on explaining tourism-related vocabulary and usage;
Part 3: One reading comprehension passage, designed to improve students' reading skills while expanding their professional knowledge;
Part 4: Grammar, which explains a grammar topic related to the main content of the text and includes a certain number of example sentences;
Part 5: Exercises, mainly including cloze tests and English-Chinese translation, with examples and passages as close as possible to the profession;
Part 6: Supplementary reading, all selected materials are related to the previously detailed and practiced content, further enhancing reading intensity.
Additionally, this book includes "Answer Key" and "Glossary" to facilitate self-study and systematic mastery of the English vocabulary encountered in the lessons. The dialogues, texts, and reading passages in this textbook are primarily sourced from books and publications in the UK, the U.S., and other countries. The selection is designed to be appropriately challenging yet easy to understand, covering a wide range of topics that are both professional and practical, such as natural landscapes, cultural landmarks, hotels and restaurants, food and culture, social customs, ethnic cultures, public holidays, historical relics, cultural cities, and tourist entertainment destinations. Moreover, the book provides detailed explanations of writing methods for tourism advertisements, business letters, telexes, and contracts.
