Features: It is very important to offer reading courses for senior students majoring in college grammar. This not only further enhances their overall language proficiency and comprehensive language application skills but also deepens their social and cultural knowledge, enriching their cultural literacy. The target audience for this textbook includes third and fourth-year undergraduate students majoring in French, as well as all non-undergraduate students and self-taught learners who use French as a second language. The textbook follows the history and culture of France as its main theme, covering various aspects of contemporary French society, such as politics, economy, culture, technology, education, and religion. It is divided into 18 units and 75 lessons. Each lesson consists of three parts: text, notes, and exercises. The selected texts are representative, readable, and linguistically authentic, with moderate difficulty. The knowledge difficulties in the texts are also annotated. The exercises are concise and focused, requiring students to first engage in oral practice—such as narration or discussion—after thoroughly understanding the original text and deep reflection. Then, they move on to written practice—such as writing summaries, short essays, and reviews—to organically combine the improvement of reading skills, expansion of knowledge, and enhancement of both oral and written abilities.
