Author: Qiu Yongshan (Compiler)
Publisher:
Publishing Date: July 1, 2005
Features: To popularize ancient cultural knowledge and help readers understand Confucius and his philosophy, as well as absorb the beneficial elements for better inheriting and promoting the fine traditions of Chinese culture, this book The Subtle Sayings of Laozi and Zhuangzi has been compiled. "Subtle Sayings" generally refer to profound, exquisite, and memorable language with lasting significance, such as maxims, ( should be translated as "" or ""), refined arguments, and beautiful expressions. However, the "subtle sayings" in this book encompass a broader scope beyond these categories, including materials that are progressive in thought, healthy in content, full of wit, and hold significant ideological and cultural value, as well as those that have had a major historical impact. We hope to introduce the essence of Laozi and Zhuangzi to everyone through this broader definition of "subtle sayings." The book first lists the original text, followed by "General Meaning of the Original" and "Commentary." In the "General Meaning of the Original," relevant background, event materials, and explanatory or interpretive text are included in the translation. During the compilation process, the original texts were primarily based on the Annotations to Laozi and Collected Interpretations of Zhuangzi from Zhonghua Book Company's Compendium of the Masters of the Sages, with reference to other annotated and translated versions.
