"Three Words" talk texts and imitation talk research

Author: Wen Mengfu
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2005-06-01
Features: The author believes that, as a whole, the basic characteristic of "Three Words" is that it is a collection of "storytelling" and "imitated storytelling." This distinguishes it from the storytelling collections published before it, represented by "Sixty-Family Novels," and from the imitated storytelling collections published after it, represented by "Surprise at the Table." In "Three Words," both storytelling and imitated storytelling live under the same roof, appearing as a close family, but they originate from different mothers. The former is nurtured by the Wanshe culture since the Song and Yuan dynasties, being one of the arts of Wanshe. The latter is a product of the dominant emotional trend since the late Ming Dynasty, a literary work aimed at enlightening the masses. It "imitates" storytelling, but in reality, it is merely a shell adopted for survival, and it is actually distant from folk storytelling in appearance. The author believes that a comparative study of storytelling and imitated storytelling cannot be separated from the cultural soil in which they are rooted, as this is the mother body from which they were born. In summary, the author's comparative study of the characteristics of storytelling and imitated storytelling is a universal study of the whole, and hopes that readers and critics do not absolutize these characteristics. Speaking English is certainly one of the characteristics of the British, but it does not mean that everyone who speaks fluent English is British. Therefore, the author also hopes that readers and critics focus on the universality of the whole and provide useful supplements and corrections to what is discussed.
