Features: Xiao Lang's name seal (xi), styled Lang, alias Owner of Pingxiang Pavilion. Born in 1917, Beijing native. From the 1940s, he successively taught at Beijing Normal University, Hebei Art Normal College, and Guangxi Art College. Currently, he is a professor at Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, a member of the China Artists Association, an advisor to the Tianjin Fine Arts Association, and the president of Tianjin Huaxia Fine Arts and Calligraphy Art Institute. His works include Xiao Lang Paintings, Xiao Lang Flower-and-Bird Sketches, The Art of Painting Grasshoppers, Techniques of Flower-and-Bird Painting (co-authored), Fundamentals of Chinese Painting (co-authored), and Demonstrations of Freehand Bird-and-Animal Painting.
Xiao Lang studied painting and calligraphy under Wang Xue for over ten years starting in the 1930s, while also receiving instruction from artists such as Qi Baishi, Wang Mengbai, and Chen Bading. In 1964, his flower-and-bird painting After Bathing was selected for the National Fine Arts Exhibition. In 1986, he held a flower-and-bird painting joint exhibition with his friend Aisin Gioro Puzuo in Tianjin. In 1991, he was invited by Shenzhen Art Center to hold a "Hundred Roosters" exhibition and give lectures. In 1992, he was specially invited by the first mainland press interview team to paint Lotus and Duck as a gift to the Taiwan Straits Economic and Cultural Exchange Foundation.
