Features: In the summer of Guiwei, SARS was rampant, rumors surged, and our residence was nearly sealed off. Without the mood to read or the interest to do things, I resorted to (going online). The world opened up before me as I browsed; everything seemed at my fingertips. One day, I saw a small webpage, unsure of its origin. Its design was fresh, and the interwoven graphics were quite unique. Looking at the images, I had never seen such hard work; reading the text, it was indeed a unique style of historical writing, full of wit. Although it was not without some speculative remarks or forced connections, the compilation was meticulous, and the points were clearly stated. The words were vivid, as if right before my eyes. The images and text complemented each other perfectly—so much so that those of us who are always on the lookout for opportunities, like me, were speechless. I immediately downloaded it, seeking a complete version, and planned to read it slowly over time. As autumn approached, I had a few questions for the author but sent emails frequently, yet received no replies. When I tried to log in again, there was no trace at all—was it that the author had succumbed to SARS? Upon rereading the images and text, my heart was moved. Such wonderful writing and illustrations, stored only in the hard drive, unknown, unread, and unappreciated by the world—how pity! Overwhelmed by frustration yet with a touch of wry humor, I reviewed the order, worked tirelessly, revised the wording, and sought wisdom from both past and present. Adhering to principles, I did not dare to slacken. As the three autumns drew to a close, the book was finally completed. Now that it can be published and passed down to future generations, it is indeed a great joy in life.
The book includes: Since Ancient Times, Trading Life for Familiarity, The Grilling Era, Medical Qualification, Division of Labor Emerges, The First to Get Rich, Economic Laws, Overseas Legends, Fish and Bear Paws, The Sage, Precious Thoughts, The Sage’s Teacher, Sudden vs. Gradual Enlightenment, Nudist Meditation, Simple Thinking, Confucius’s (Vast Learning), Mind Clear as a Mirror, The Moonlit Gathering, Heart Full of Lu, Image Engineering, The King of Fusang, Passion Ignites, The Man on the Beam, White Food and White Stones, The Art Master, Full Han and Man, Da Vinci and Eggs, Portrait of a Beauty, Fee Issues, Hidden Malice, Sunlight Through Shadows, The Mysterious Smile, Severe Homesickness, Enduring Humiliation, A Masterpiece for the Ages, The Academy of Athens, etc.
