Features: Probability theory and mathematical statistics are disciplines that study the statistical laws of random phenomena. They are an important branch of modern mathematics. With the development of computers and the creation of various statistical software, probability and statistics have been widely applied in various fields. For this reason, the course on probability and statistics has become one of the most important compulsory mathematics courses for all majors in higher education institutions. However, due to the inherent characteristics of this course, beginners often find some important concepts and ideas confusing. Therefore, in the process of writing this textbook, we strive to reflect the following aspects:
(1) Concise and clear: Focus on the intuitive explanation of concepts and theories, avoiding overly mathematical arguments while maintaining the completeness and rigor of the content. Provide strict, accurate, and standardized descriptions of basic concepts, theorems, and formulas.
(2) Emphasize probability and statistics methods and their applications in various fields. Focus on introducing probability and statistics methods to cultivate students' accurate understanding of basic concepts and proficiency in common methods. Select a large number of typical application cases of probability and statistics in various fields as examples and exercises to help students correctly understand and apply these methods.
(3) Align closely with the examination syllabus for the postgraduate entrance examination in mathematics (I) and mathematics (III) across China. The simulated questions at the end of each chapter are typical question types from recent postgraduate entrance examinations and those for this course.
(4) This book includes reference answers for both exercises and simulated questions. In addition to basic problems, we provide problem-solving hints or tips for more challenging exercises to facilitate teaching and self-study.
