Features: Currently, the entrance examinations of art academies in China mostly use still-life paintings in gouache as color test subjects. Gouache lies between oil painting and watercolor—it possesses the thick, delicate characteristics of oil painting and the light, flowing qualities of watercolor. Additionally, still objects are more conducive to students observing them closely during the painting process, making it easier for them to grasp the color rules from static subjects. Therefore, still-life painting is generally considered a fundamental course for learning color. Through still-life painting, students can study the characteristics of object colors, the relationship between light and color, and various expressive techniques of color. In college entrance examinations, the color test is usually set for 3 hours. In such a short period, how to quickly and accurately grasp color, shape objects, handle relationships within the picture, and achieve the overall effect of the artwork has become a topic of common concern for both teachers and students. It has also become the key to whether students can enter their ideal art academies. After years of teaching practice, I have summarized and explored a 3-hour color teaching method. Together with the color sketches and demonstrations I created for students during those 3 hours, I have compiled them into this collection and present it here for reference by colleagues and candidates.
