Psychology is a recommended college psychology textbook by the State Education Commission, suitable for full-time college students majoring in psychology or related fields, as well as self-study candidates for undergraduate psychology programs. It can also serve as a reference for psychology enthusiasts and students enrolled in psychology courses at radio and television universities or correspondence education institutions.
As disciplines evolve, textbooks must timely reflect the current state of academic development. Therefore, updating content is a fundamental task in textbook revision. This includes appropriately supplementing and adding new knowledge while removing relatively outdated material. For example, in Chapter 2, when discussing the functions of the cerebellum, it is supplemented with: "Recent studies have shown that the cerebellum also plays an important role in certain higher cognitive functions (e.g., sensory discrimination)." In the memory chapter, the "SPI theory of memory" is re-explained. In the motivation chapter, the self-determination theory of motivation is added, and the achievement goal theory is supplemented. In the emotion chapter, based on recent developments in affective neuroscience, the section on "emotion and the brain" is revised, introducing the hypothesis of two emotional brain circuits and related research findings, while the content on "emotion and the hypothalamus" from the original textbook is removed.
Given the significant theoretical and practical value of emotion regulation, we have also supplemented related content. In the personality chapter, we made two important adjustments: first, after introducing trait theory and type theory, we added a section on "integrative theory," which introduces Eysenck's personality theory, making the structure more rigorous. Second, we completely rewrote the section on "personality formation," ensuring the content is more comprehensive.
