The textbook used for this book is the People's Education Press unified junior high school Chinese textbook, which has been in use since the autumn of 2000.
Second, for each ancient Chinese and classical poetry in the textbook, there are five sections: small knowledge, learning focus, translation and interpretation, analysis, and self-test. These sections help readers learn and self-assess. Each volume includes three sets of comprehensive self-assessment questions at the end. Self-test and comprehensive self-assessment questions are accompanied by reference answers.
Small knowledge introduces background and literary knowledge related to the text; learning focus highlights the key knowledge points that should be mastered for each text; translation and interpretation provide word-by-word explanations and sentence-by-sentence translations of the text; analysis offers concise guidance on the content, themes, and writing style of the text; self-test and comprehensive self-assessment questions allow readers to check their learning progress, with questions closely tied to the text while also extending appropriately.
In the translation and interpretation section, the translation follows a vertical format, with the ancient Chinese text at the top and the translation below, separated by a horizontal line. Annotations are added after each word in the original text, distinguished by parentheses. For single-character words, annotations are provided directly in parentheses without a word heading; for words of two or more characters, a word heading is first marked in parentheses before the annotation.
Fourth, for word meanings, sentence patterns, character biographies, allusions, and other terms that are difficult to explain in parentheses, additional footnotes are provided on the same page for clarification.
Fifth, the omission of sentence components is common in ancient Chinese texts. In this book, omissions in prose are marked by adding parentheses to indicate the omitted component without specifying what it is, to avoid excessive complexity. Poems are not marked because they are already highly condensed and, with many omissions that are.
Sixth, the new Chinese textbook has intentionally reduced and diluted grammar knowledge, focusing on ability development, so this book generally does not provide detailed grammatical analysis.
Seventh, relevant author handwriting, portraits, and book images are appropriately matched with each text for readers to appreciate.
